Moving Forward: Vanguard Conference for AA Males in Independent Schools.

Vanguard cordially invites you to MOVING FORWARD, the 2nd conference for and by African-American males in Bay Area Independent Schools.

When: Saturday, May 9, 2009 10:00 AM– 2:00 PM

Where: Lick-Wilmerding High School, 755 Ocean Avenue, San Francisco
Lunch will be provided

Who: African-American male students in grades 6-12 in independent schools and African-American men working as educators in independent schools

What: Educators from various Bay Area Independent Schools will lead workshop sessions covering topics such as planning for college, preparing for high school, and balancing academics with other activities. We will also recognize graduating seniors and graduating 8th graders. Most importantly, this event will provide an opportunity for African-American male students to establish or strengthen connections with other African-American males.

Artistic Jobs for Youth...

Youth Spirit Artworks, the new youth art jobs and job training program based in S. Berkeley, is accepting applications for its paid internships for Spring 09 (April 7 through June 7th) and for Summer 09 (June 22 through August 21st). Spring internship training will be Monday through Friday 3pm to 6pm and summer internship training will be Monday through Friday 9:45am to 2:45pm (art studio focus) and 1:30pm to 6:30pm (community arts focus). Youth Spirit's mission is to use art to empower and transform the lives of homeless and low income youth, giving youth the experience, training and self confidence necessary to meet their full potential.
